Jacob’s life was filled with many shadows. There were many sorrows and trials in his pilgrimage. And as we come to the latter part of his life the old Jacob is daily dying. And Israel, the prince is daily flourishing and growing.

Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours. Judah, thou art he whom thy brethren shall praise: thy hand shall be in the neck of thine enemies; thy father’s children shall bow down before thee.
