Sermon Topic: Church

I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan. Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

And when we had finished our course from Tyre, we came to Ptolemais, and saluted the brethren, and abode with them one day.

The text is in 1 Thessalonians 1:8. This is the first letter of the apostle Paul, and he compliments the church at Thessalonica. First Thessalonians 1:8: “For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia,” two of the Roman provinces, “but in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; we do not have to say anything about you, everybody knows about you already.”

For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in the Roman province of Macedonia, where they live, but also in Achaia – the capital of it was Athens – and in every place, your faith to God-ward is spread abroad.

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus, To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day; Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;

And Simon and they that were with him followed after him. And when they had found him, they said unto him, All men seek for thee.
